Alongside the harbor promenade there are a large variety of restaurants. The city is dominated by an old castle overlooking the city {link}. During July and August, on the beach, there's a special hut from the local government, that has comfortable chairs, shade and lots of books you can borrow (for free). They even have English books on loan. The read-a-book-on-the-beach is called "Lire A La Plage". More info, click here (in French). They have a large pleasure boats section. Promendade & Restaurants There's a long and wide promendade alongside the harbor, with many different kinds of restaurants. Loads of restaurants In the summer time, most restaurants offer outside eating facilities. You'll find many musicians playing while you eat... Fortified Wall Entrance The city used to have a fortified wall. The main castle still remains, and is situated on top of the hill overlooking Dieppe. The Castle on the hill When you walk around the city centre, you will find many small squares with restaurants, and many old buildings dating back to the middle ages. Church Square Old houses Some of the houses are very old, made out of wood, but well maintained. "New" Church Old Storage Depot Dieppe has one main pedestrian shopping street with some 200 shops. Main Pedestrian Shopping Street Open Air Market On Saturday morning there is a very big open air market alongside the main pedestrian shopping street and squares. Pebble beach Like most beaches in Upper Normandy, they consist of pebbles (not sand).
